8 Years of Serving stray animals- Bark India Charitable Trust

The animal rescue centre and veterinary hospital of Bark India Charitable Trust, Pondicherry is celebrating 8 years of helping needy stray animals. 

Established in 18th August,2023, 6514 stray animals have been rescued,admitted and given medical  care to recovery along with providing surgeries and vaccinations. Our various animal welfare Programmes include,

  • Sick animal rescue and treatment- In which sick/injured/wounded stray animals are rescued (with public support), given admission and medical care till recovery, done sterilisation and vaccination and released back to the place where they are rescued from. Handicapped animals are sent to shelters while abandoned pets/puppies,kittens are put for adoption. 6514 strays have been used the service in and around Pondicherry.
  • Veterinary surgeries- Our expertise veterinary team includes veterinary surgeon and veterinary doctors with experienced and trained animal assistants and handlers. All sorts of major and minor surgeries are done at the hospital like orthopedic pinning, hematoma, tumor removal and others. 
  • Animal Adoption Programme- That puts animals up for adoption to happy families, once they are healthy after treatment. Puppies/kittens/handicapped/abandoned animals are mostly vulnerable to street life and all the possible measures are taken to find them happy forever homes. 156 animals found their happy homes through the programme. 
  • Stray Animal Feeding- that started during the Covid19 lockdown with the feeding of 60-100 dogs in the surrounding areas , later extented to 550 stray animals every day in their areas, where food availability is less. After 2 years, when the lockdown is over and life became normal, the programme feeds 350 stray animals in their places every night with a delicious and healthy meal. 
  • Vaccination camps- Conducted at the rural areas of Pondicherry and nearby Tamil Nadu, aiming to provide free anti-rabies vaccination, deworming and general check-up, where veterinary medical care is less accessible. Awareness to the public is also done with this. So far more than  500 animals got benefited from this in 8 years.
